Powerful New Features for TrustGo’s Android Security App Help Ring in a Safer 2013

TrustGo Antivirus & Mobile Security version 1.3.1 Provides Chrome Browser Protection, SD Card Media Scanning and More

Santa Clara, Calif., January 3, 2013 – TrustGo Mobile Inc. (TrustGo), a leading mobile security company, today announced the availability of the newest version of its mobile security app, TrustGo Antivirus & Mobile Security 1.3.1. Published on Google Play, the app’s new features protect users against malicious sites and phishing threats that target Android devices running Google’s popular Chrome browser, and also provide SD card virus scanning for media files such as photos, documents and music files that are stored on the devices’ memory card.

These features are available for free to all existing and new users who download the latest version and add significantly to TrustGo’s impressive list of features:

  • • The highest ratings for detecting and removing malware and aggressive adware according to independent tests:
  •      • 98%-100% accuracy in detecting and removing malware (AVComparatives.org, August, 2012)
  •      • 97.6% detection and removal of apps with aggressive adware (AV Test, October, 2012)
  • • Powerful device protection capabilities including “Find My Phone”, remote lock, alarm and wipe and “Candid Camera” intrusion alerts that send an email to the user with a photo of the intruder when an incorrect password is entered three times
  • • Expense management features to help protect against costs for excess data and SMS usage
  • • Data protection features that allow remote backup and restoration of contacts and call and message histories.

“Each year, millions of people get new Android smartphones during the holidays,” says Jeff Becker, Head of marketing at TrustGo. “But the apps they download may expose them to a range of unwanted activities ranging from aggressive advertising to outright theft of money and/or private, personal data. Android users can protect themselves by giving themselves a simple gift and installing TrustGo Antivirus and Mobile Security.”

Increasingly, the Android platform is being targeted by malicious developers and less-than-reputable advertising networks. In the past quarter, TrustGo has scanned and analyzed more than two million apps available on more than 185 download sites worldwide and discovered more than 30,000 malicious apps and nearly 400,000 “High Risk” apps that put users’ personal data at risk by abusing permissions granted by the user.

“For even the most advanced user, it is virtually impossible to know whether an app you’d like to download is safe or risky,” says Jeff Becker. “TrustGo looks more deeply at what apps are doing in the background to identify security risks that might cause users to have their personal privacy invaded, or worse yet, have unwanted charges made against their mobile accounts.”
